It’s Almost National Pizza Month, and Yes, Pizza Is Still Our Favorite Food

Pizza reigns as Americans’ favorite food.

If we could only eat one food for the rest of our lives, pizza would be the choice, beating out steak, hamburgers, tacos and other picks.

That’s the finding of a survey out Thursday from California Pizza Kitchen, timed ahead of National Pizza Month, which kicks off Monday.

Pizza was the favorite food of 21 percent of those surveyed. Steak came in second (16%), followed by hamburgers (13%), tacos (11%), pasta (11%), salad (9%), sushi (6%), and macaroni and cheese (4%). The Harris Poll conducted the survey online for the restaurant chain from Aug. 29-31 among 2,027 U.S. adults.

Pizza also was the choice dish (25%) when it comes to indulging and straying from the usual diet, beating out ice cream or burger with fries (each got 18%), fried chicken (7%) and tacos (7%).

Of course, you might say, pizza would come out on top in a survey commissioned by a pizza chain. But the U.S. Department of Agriculture found in a study released in 2014 that about 13 percent of the U.S. population consumed pizza on any given day.
