Could AI Improve Healthcare Outcomes And Lower Costs?: GMercyU-Harris Poll
By this point, most of us have probably used artificial intelligence (AI) to help with tasks at work, school, or at home. But have you considered how AI could transform your experience at the doctor’s office? A recent Harris Poll study conducted on behalf of Gwynedd Mercy University explores how Americans feel about AI’s increasing presence in the healthcare system.
- Better health outcomes and lower costs: More than half of US adults believe that using AI to assist in diagnosis and treatment will result in better health outcomes for patients (59%) and lower healthcare costs (57%) within the next decade.
- AI as a valuable training tool: 75% of US adults believe AI should be used in educating and training healthcare professionals.
- Patients can use AI to improve their health: One-third of Americans would consider using AI for remote monitoring of chronic conditions (35%), predictive health alerts (33%), or virtual health assistance (31%).
- Potential benefits come with real concerns: 88% of US adults express concern about the increasing use of AI in healthcare settings.
Takeaway: “It is thrilling to consider how technology will advance healthcare and enhance patient outcomes in the coming years. While AI can never replace the critical human connection in healthcare, the ability to automate certain tasks will allow physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to focus more on delivering exceptional patient care. We are excited to be at the forefront of preparing healthcare professionals to lead in a healthcare system that seamlessly integrates innovation with humanity.” – Dr. Jane Tang, Dean of the Frances M. Maguire College of Nursing and Health Professions
